If Insults Can Get You Detained, We'll All Be Sharing A Cell
-
A British woman has returned to London after being held in Dubai for calling her ex-husband's wife a "horse" on Facebook. Dubai has strict "cybercrime" laws, and all it takes is a complaint from someone about something you said or wrote online and you're in trouble. She went to Dubai for her ex's funeral, and ended up detained over the comment, which she posted in 2016. She faced up to two years in prison, but after intervention by a group that fights Dubai's penchant for detaining people, she was able to pay a fine and got released. Are there things you've posted that would get you in trouble if anyone complained? (The Guardian)
