Putting The (Electric Tesla) Cart Before The Horse
-
The war against driving keeps taking different forms. Take the new-ish mixed use shopping-dining-office-upscale condo development up the street from the massive King of Prussia Mall outside Philadelphia, where they put everything close together to encourage people to hang out in their "neighborhood." One thing they didn't provide: adequate parking. Oh, did I mention that the train doesn't go to King of Prussia (at least, yet) and other than a slow bus ride, you need a car to get anywhere, like, say, work? If they don't want you to drive there and, unless you spring for an Uber, you're not going to find public transportation, what are they expecting you to do? You can't force a downtown urban core on the suburbs any more than you can force a mall downtown (and how many downtown malls flopped miserably, even before the suburban malls died?).
