It's Theft, No Matter How You Want To Rationalize It
-
I've mentioned this before, but it really has become a thing that people just don't see that plagiarism is a big deal anymore. It should be, though, and so it's heartening to see best-selling author Nora Roberts suing a serial plagiarist who's been taking other people's works and basically copying and pasting whole sections and passages together and selling them as her own online. It's become easier to get away with it when you use something like Amazon's self-publishing system, because no editor's going to catch it and you can sell to unsuspecting consumers. It's worse because they also get paid via Kindle Unlimited, earnings based on how many pages people read. A lawsuit will help. A reversion to basic morality -- don't steal others' work and pass it off as your own -- would be nice, too. (AP via CBC)
