Because Getting Rid Of Coupons Worked Out So Well For Macy's And JC Penney
-
What do you think of when you think of Bed, Bath and Beyond? (Besides wondering what "Beyond" is, of course.) Coupons, all those blue and white coupons. Nobody shops there without coupons, and everyone knows that a) you can use expired BB&B coupons, b) if you forget yours, the cashier will probably have one for you, and c) if not for the coupons, you might not shop there. The problem: While the coupons work to attract customers, they're killing the business. So the store's cutting back, sending out fewer coupons and putting restrictions on their use. That'll make each transaction more profitable, but will you go there if they're not taking coupons the way they used to? (Washington Post)
