One thing that seems to be left out of the health care debate: insanely high deductibles that put even those with work-related insurance in the position of being unable to afford health care. This isn't an Obamacare issue, it predates that and is the result of laws that encouraged those high-deductible plans, and companies discovering that they could save money by using those plans to shift costs to their employees. If you get sick, you may go bankrupt. And so, people don't go to the doctor even if they need to. You have to be wealthy to not be stressed over this. And, no, the open market has not helped; people don't comparison-shop for medical services. Again, the question: Should your access to health care depend on how rich you are? (Los Angeles Times)
