It's Not So Pleasant When Reality Invades Reality TV
-
"The Jeremy Kyle Show" is a British TV series that's basically "The Jerry Springer Show" with a different host. (A U.S. version, taped in New York with American guests, aired for a couple of years.) Recently, they did one of those lie-detector episodes, and a guest failed the test. And then, a week after taping the show, he committed suicide, and now there are calls for the network (ITV) to end the show (the episode was pulled and will not air). Should shows like that which exploit people's situations continue or is it time to move on and not put people's private traumas on TV for public entertainment and ridicule? UPDATE: ITV has cancelled the show. Death is apparently the line they wouldn't let the show cross. (The Guardian)
