There's Always Baskin-Robbins, But It's Not The Same

The last remaining Farrell's Ice Cream shop, in Brea, CA, closed down this week, and you might remember the chain that was nationwide in the '70s, known for huge sundaes and straw-hatted servers. It was old school ice cream parlor stuff. The chain folded but was resurrected, but is now apparently dead again. And the story talks about how an old-timey ice cream parlor is passé in the age of nitrogen ice creams and frozen yogurt and rolled ice cream and other more 2019 styles. Really? People don't go for a big gooey hot fudge sundae anymore? Going to a big parlor with red vinyl booths and digging into a big bowl of good ol' regular ice cream doesn't appeal to families now? What's happened to us? (Orange County Register)
