What High School Hall Monitors Grow Up To Be
-
We had a story last week about a citizen's arrest, and now here's Washington, DC considering letting some civilians write parking tickets, sort of, to spare real police from that duty. The idea is to deputize 80 residents to go out and snap photos of violations like parking in a crosswalk or bike lane, then upload then in a special app that would be reviewed by a city employee, who would then mail a ticket to the violator. It's like a human red-light camera. So many concerns: If a cop does it, there's always a chance you can demonstrate extenuating circumstances like an emergency, but if it's some anonymous civilian, you'll never get the chance to explain. Photoshop is also an issue. Apparently, Malibu already does this, by the way. (New York Times)
