They Should Make Wind-Up Phones Anyway
-
You want alarmist? I got your alarmist right here: an article in The Guardian interviewing a couple of experts about electrical safety, done in the wake of a kid's tablet burning a hole through his mattress while charging on his bed. The very first thing they say, in fact, is never to charge a phone that's on the bed, and never -- this one will be a violation for all of us -- NEVER charge your phone overnight. (When are you SUPPOSED to charge it?) Also, they want you to only use the original charger that came with the phone (also, nah). They also tend to turn off all electrical everything, any device or machine that doesn't have a timer, when leaving home. But they don't think it's necessary to turn off your TV in a thunderstorm, so there's that. How cavalier are you with leaving stuff on when you leave the house, or charging stuff, or anything else electrical? (The Guardian)
