Not A Great Development For Truck Stops, Either
-
One way to deal with a truck driver shortage: semis with nobody behind the wheel. But they're not autonomous, driverless vehicles. Wait, what? No, they're being driven by someone in an office far away, remotely. The computers make some decisions, but the person in the control room watching via cameras is making others and, ultimately, is in control. This seems to work great on long, desolate stretches of open freeway. This does not work as well on off-ramps and taking curves. It is also probably the future, so let's hope they figure it all out before there's trouble. (Washington Post)
