I Shoulda Learned Plumbing Or Something

I'm not sure you need to be told this, but it has never been a worse time to be looking for employment as a journalist, with the worst job losses in a decade hitting the business hard. Journalism, in fact, is one of the few sectors doing poorly in this economy. You know why: Ad revenue's dried up, newspapers are closing or scaling back, Facebook and Google have sucked up all the revenue and not shared it with the people actually reporting and writing the content. And there's no relief or solution in sight, which is not good news for a democracy that depends on reporting to keep politicians in check. When you have award-winning reporters taking bartending jobs because they need to pay the bills, it's really bad. (Bloomberg)
