Can You Steal Something That Doesn't Exist? Hmm...
-
Because it IS an interesting ethical dilemma, here are a bunch of real-life ethicists discussing whether the hero of the movie "Yesterday" who is the only one in his (new, post-trauma) universe who remembers the Beatles and their hits and releases them as his own before SPOILER ALERT coming clean at an Ed Sheeran concert, is really a hero or a cheater. Are you stealing from someone if the thing you're supposedly stealing doesn't exist in your new world? If Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, and Starkey exist in your new world but never formed a band and never wrote the songs, are you stealing from them if you go ahead and claim the songs as your own? This might make a better movie than the one Danny Boyle ended up making. (The Ringer)
