In Europe, the idea of "flight shame" -- taking another form of transportation, like driving or trains -- over air travel is growing in popularity, and even one major airline (KLM) is encouraging people to not fly so much. Can U.S. travelers fly less, too? Unlikely. We don't have high-speed rail like Europe, our cities are further apart except in the northeast, and driving would probably be WORSE for the environment than getting on a largely full plane. But do you even think about carbon footprints when you travel? (Washington Post)
