Hope You're Not In A Rush

Public Service Announcement: If you need to apply for Global Entry -- and if you're a U.S. citizen and don't have it and intend to fly outside the U.S., you should -- be aware that applications are being delayed and interviews are hard to get because the staff that handles the applications and interviews have been reassigned to the border, and the government shutdown in the winter created a backlog that hasn't been cleared up yet. The LAX interview office is closed (there's another one in Long Beach, but it might be tough to get an appointment). Bottom line: If you're a traveler and you need Global Entry, get your application in as early as possible in case it takes a long time. (Oh, and if you have Global Entry, check your renewal date. You can and should renew as soon as you're eligible, which is one year before expiration. Trust me, do it.) (Washington Post)
