Smells Like Home, Too
-
This story of a neighborhood in the Phoenix suburb of Goodyear, Arizona plagued by a dead fish smell because a man-made lake dried out reminds me: IT'S THE DESERT. Building a pond and stocking it with fish in the middle of a housing development because, I don't know, it's "just like home" is as ridiculous as all the people who moved to Scottsdale and planted lush lawns requiring constant watering because IT"S THE DESERT and lush lawns aren't native. No knock on Phoenix -- I go there fairly frequently, I have friends there, I like it -- but the fact that people can live there year-round is still pretty amazing to me, because IT'S THE DESERT. So, if you put a lake in your town and add fish and it evaporates and everything smells, what could you have possibly expected to happen? IT'S THE DESERT. (KPHO-TV-KTVK/Phoenix)
