Aah, We Didn't Need To Breathe, Anyway
-
Look, I try not to get too political in this column, because you all can find all the politics you want everywhere and there's no need for me to tell you what topics to do in that category. But I'm going to make an exception for this one because you may otherwise let it slip by: Trump is revoking the waiver letting California set its own car emissions standards, and while his people are contending that this is pro-consumer (cars will cost less!), it's profoundly anti-human: As a resident of California, we NEED tougher standards on ALL emissions, cars, factories, whatever. Southern California's climate and layout are particularly prone to smog. And the car companies AGREE with that and have voluntarily made deals with the state on this, which Trump is against, too. Why? Why is this administration so aggressively anti-environment? If you support him, you need to line your answers up and explain to the listeners why cheaper cars are worth worse air quality. If you're against him, this is an outrage that you don't want to let get away. And if you're not in California, this actually affects several other states, but you can also talk about whether you're okay with an administration targeting a state for political reasons, because if you're in a red state, a Democrat could do this to you, too.
