Rats Can Be Cute, Too, I Guess
-
Every time I see someone feeding wildlife, I think, oh, that person thinks they're being kind but they're causing trouble. Indeed, in Lynn, MA, a woman's love of birds, setting up several feeders and scattering peanuts on the lawn for other animals, has led to a neighborhood-wide rat infestation. She thinks of the birds and animals as her children, and she wanted to feed all the animals. Look, we've said it before: Wild animals and birds get all the food they need in the wild. They do not need your help. And if you insist on feeding them, a) they'll become dependent on you and unable to fend in the wild, and b) they'll poop all over the place. Oh, and yeah, there's the attraction to vermin. (AP via Boston Globe)
