The thing isn't just that the new operator of Sports Illustrated walked in and fired half of the staff. It's that the plan is to take the venerated brand and cheap out by hiring interns and non-writers to aggregate content and create clickbait, no real reporting. That's been what a lot of media companies have done, and it ultimately doesn't work. Or maybe it does; Forbes, which used to be respected, is now an anyone-can-write-anything pile, and it's surviving. But it's bad for everyone that bad writing is now the currency and good writing and reporting is not valued. (Deadspin)
