Careful You Don't Order A Wedgie
-
Where I grew up in New Jersey, it was a sub or a hero. I moved to the Philly area and it was a hoagie. I know some areas call it a grinder, though where I lived, that was a hot hoagie. Not once did I ever hear it called what this article says they call it in Westchester County, New York: a wedge. A wedge, to me, is a salad that consists of a chunk of a head of iceberg lettuce dripping in dressing. It is not a sandwich. Every area has its local terms that baffle anyone outside the region; what's yours? (Westchester-Rockland Journal News/LoHud.com; thanks to Anita Bonita at WCBS/New York for the link)
