Do diet sodas kill you? This article at The New York Times' The Upshot contends that those reports are unnecessarily alarmist, and the analysis could be used on ALL of the health scare articles you see. In short: The articles and studies assume you think artificial is bad (it might not be), soda's an easy target that you don't NEED in your diet, scientists have to publish SOMETHING as part of their tenure and funding needs so half-assed research that doesn't really prove any links between anything get published, the media pays attention to the handful of prestigious academic institutions that crank out these studies, and, again, correlation is not causation. So, take these reports with a grain of sodium. (New York Times)
