When I was a kid, I remember me and my dad going to the airport to watch planes take off and land, back before there even WAS tight security. And it wasn't long ago that you could walk right up to the gate to greet an arrival. Those days may be gone forever, but not quite: Some airports, like those in Pittsburgh, Tampa, and Detroit, now offer passes for non-passengers to go airside to go to the gate to greet passengers, or even just to go to the shops and restaurants in the terminal. I'd be concerned that this will add to the crowds, but it WOULD be nice to be able to greet passengers right as they deplane instead of waiting all the way down by baggage claim. (Washington Post)
