Update on a story we had a few weeks ago: Not only was that Tampa high school built on a cemetery, but the radar scan they used to find out what's under the building is showing that there are 145 graves under the school. And if that's not enough, it was a cemetery for poor African-Americans, many of them children, and it dates back to the mid-20th century, which means that it wasn't long ago and that when they built that school, someone -- everyone, really -- HAD to know it was there. In fact, the cemetery was opened in 1942 and sold off to a private company in 1957; the school district bought it in 1959 and built the school shortly after that. How did that all fly, no pun intended, under the radar? (Tampa Bay Times)
