The Foot In The Door Is Being Stepped On
-
The drama over Hollywood assistants being paid peanuts continues with a survey indicating that most of them are struggling and having to work multiple jobs to pay the rent, because living in L.A. is impossible at the kind of wages Hollywood pays. Long hours, crap pay. And the justification is that if you DON'T take minimum wage, someone else will, gladly. But that assumes everything should be market-based and there's no moral element to employment. If you're a boss and you're not paying people enough to live on, you're exploiting them and the market. That just doesn't sit right, does it? And doesn't that mean that the only people who can do the job are people who come from rich families and not necessarily the best or most diverse workers?
