What's Wrong With This Picture? A Lot
-
A lot of people passed this intended-to-be-heartwarming story around on the internet, marveling at the 8-year-old who sold key chains to pay off the lunch debt for his entire school, and shortly thereafter it was followed by people pointing out that the very fact that there IS a "lunch debt" and that an 8-year-old had to raise the money because adults wouldn't and the school system wants money from elementary school kids is kind of an indictment of our entire society. And it's both: It's nice that the kid did that, and it's insane that in America, kids are being pressured into debt for just wanting a crappy sandwich and some carrot sticks for lunch at school.
