The story of a wheelchair-bound widower who gave tens of thousands of dollars to a woman he met online who now says she can't pay him back is sad, but the bottom line is that you can't let someone take advantage of your loneliness and vulnerability under any circumstances. The unfortunate result is that the man now could lose his home because he's $300,000 in debt -- the woman says the amount she got was a lot less -- but if you're buying someone you're dating a car and paying for gastric bypass surgery and then you say "I just didn't have a clue that I was getting played," that's sort of gotta be on you, because it would be obvious to anyone that, yeah, you got played. She SHOULD pay him back, but you can't hand that kind of cash over to anyone in the first place. (CTV)
