Consider The Alarm Sounded
-
Climate change is, whether you want to believe it or not, real, and a problem, and requiring attention. But is what Takoma Park, Maryland, a very liberal town outside of Washington, appropriate or even practical? What they're doing is considering a ban on fossil fuels, including banning gas stoves, gas stations (by 2045), leaf blowers, all gas appliances, a move that could cost every homeowner $25,000. It's not binding, but it would put the pressure on everyone and even people sympathetic to the need for major government measures to address climate change are calling this draconian. So, should they take charge to this extent or is the economic or social impact of a plan like this too harsh? (Washington Post)
