Last week, we had a story from Florida about a guy who had some symptoms of coronavirus, obeyed the government warnings and submitted to testing, was found not to have it, and got stuck with big bills for the testing. And you might chalk that up to, well, the testing was unnecessary, too bad. If you feel that way, what about people who get put into mandatory quarantine and testing and then get stuck with the bill anyway? They weren't given the choice. They HAD to go to the hospital, under government orders. And if their insurance doesn't cover all of it, they have to pay, like some Americans evacuated from China who were then ordered to be hospitalized even though they showed no signs of the disease and didn't have it. Because they were initially overseas, their employer-based insurance won't pay. How is that fair? (New York Times)
