The Word, As Opposed To A Word
-
Here's an entire article about the most-used word, by far, in the English language, which I've used twice already in this sentence and which, itself, has no definition: "the." The article posits that "the" may be the most powerful word in the language, because it serves a function rather than a meaning, a quantifier and a definer in ways you can't really, um, put into words. "The" instead of "an" can, for example, change everything. Bet you didn't think about this before. And right now, we kinda need stuff we've never thought much about to distract us. (BBC)
