Your Survival Is Interfering With Their Ability To Profit
-
The remarkable thing about the pandemic is how it's shown that a lot of people, given the choice between profits and saving lives, choose the money. Take European cheap-fare airline RyanAir, whose CEO says that social distancing rules like leaving middle seats empty are "idiotic" and if he has to comply, he won't fly because his business model won't work. But his business model might kill people. (In fairness, he also says that the rules are "idiotic" because leaving the middle seat open won't really help keep people safe, which might be the case but we don't know.) He WOULD be okay with making everyone wear a mask and taking their temperatures, but he's hopeful that he can just get back to making money, and is looking to pick up business from failed rivals. Good to know his priorities are straight. (The Guardian)
