Sad Songs Say So Much. Like, For Example, 'I'm Wallowing In Self-Pity And I Like It'
-
I wouldn't normally post a Spotify playlist as a talk show topic, but this one might be very appropriate for the times: "Men in Blazers," the soccer podcast/TV show/institution/legend, has created a playlist of the saddest songs, heavy on Americana and alternative and very sad (though I think it's missing a couple of Jason Isbell tunes that belong alongside his former band Drive-By Truckers' "Goddamn Lonely Love"). It's based on Roger Bennett's longtime obsession with Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" and it includes some classics, from "I Can't Make You Love Me" to "Summer's End" to "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." You can spend a lot of time taking calls with nominees, and you can muse on why people love sad songs. (Men In Blazers/Spotify)
