The Rocky Statue, On The Other Hand, Stays Right Where It Is
-
They took down the statue of Frank Rizzo in Philadelphia, and they're replacing the Frank Rizzo mural at the Italian Market, too. You could say it's because of the protests, but, look, I lived in Philly when Rizzo was mayor and then -- of course -- a talk show host, and he was... not a worthy subject for a statue or mural. He was a hero to some people, but a racist champion of police brutality to others, and the latter was more accurate. And THAT leads to me wondering why it took this long for public sentiment to change enough to warrant an end to glorifying him. On the other hand, there are still people upset that Confederate statues are coming down, too, and that's taken even longer. (WCAU-TV/Philadelphia)
