The Next Best Thing To Being There Is Now The Best Thing, Period

We've kicked around the topic of when and if you're going to flock back to the ballparks and arenas for pro sports in person, whenever, that is, the pandemic and the no-fan-games-at-neutral-sites thing are over. But Mike Sielski of the Philadelphia Inquirer is reminding us in this column that people were staying home and leaving empty seats for many sports events even before the pandemic. Sure, some teams sell out every game, but attendance was down overall, in some cities markedly so. Will pent-up demand mean sold out games when the gates reopen, will people still be hesitant to join crowds for relatively frivolous events, or will they revert to that rather-watch-it-on-TV mode they were adopting before March?
