If You Need A Downtown Address, You Could Always Just Drive It There
-
Jeremiah Owyang is well-known in Silicon Valley, but that didn't make renting an office in that famously expensive area any more affordable. But he came up with a solution that's ingenious and might give YOU some ideas, too: He bought an RV trailer for $50,000 on a 20 year loan -- that's $370 a month -- and parked it at his house, steps away from his door. A little redecorating to make it look good on video calls, a solid Internet connection, and presto: home office. He says while he COULD drive it around, he intends to keep it in his yard. And if he ever wants to sell it, he can. That's one way to beat the real estate market, though I suspect that telecommuting might just bring commercial real estate rents down to earth soon.
