Just Sell The Naming Rights. Seems To Work For Ballparks

Yes, Orange County Democrats are calling for John Wayne's name to be taken off the airport, and, yes, The Duke has fans on the other side who will oppose this and lament about "erasing history" and all that. And, meanwhile, Princeton University has taken the name of Woodrow Wilson off its School of Public and International Affairs. The question that is being raised by all of these name and statue controversies is real: Should we be honoring bad people? Because whatever good John Wayne stood for, he was also pretty racist, saying he believed in white supremacy, called Black people irresponsible, and was in favor of what happened to Native Americans. Wilson, of course, was a raging segregationist who wouldn't hire Black people for his administration. You can say that nobody's perfect, but when the flaws are that pronounced, should the honor be revoked? (Los Angeles Times; NJ Advance Media/NJ.com)
