It's Not So Bad If You're Upwind When You Bulldoze The Place
-
This is an update on a story we did years ago, I believe, about a Realtor's efforts to sell the dirtiest home in Houston, full of animal poop and pee and trash because the owners used it to store 12 dogs, six cats and a potbelly pig, all living there alone: Well, first off, the Realtor gave up. Nobody would buy it at the asking price, not even to knock it down and build a new house. The smell's so bad that some prospective buyers refused to go in. He tried a creative marketing approach, acknowledging the condition of the home, and got some offers, but the owners were holding out for $280,000, the bank wouldn't budge, and he gave up. So it went to a trustee's auction, someone bought it there in 2018, and here's the kicker: Two years later, it's been appraised by the county at $305,120. Imagine how much it would be worth without the poop. (Houston Chronicle)
