You may have heard by now about the doctor (and podcaster!) who says that you don't need to use soap in the shower and that he hasn't in five years, and your first reaction has to be "ew." But scrubbing off microbiomes might actually be harmful. Or not, and the same for natural skin oils. And it's true that body odor squeamishness doesn't go back that far in history, just to Lifebuoy ads ("BEEEEE.... Ooooooh!") in the '20s, and some skin disorders like eczema or psoriasis might be linked to or exacerbated by over-scrubbing.
