Like We Can Afford Anything Right Now Anyway
-
We have discussed this before, but the topic won't go away: With Lord and Taylor joining Neiman Marcus, JC Penney, and others in filing for bankruptcy, the question is whether there's any chance that department stores will survive. At one point, discounters like Kohl's were supposed to be the "new department store," and Target and Walmart have always been threats. But there are Amazon and other online retailers, and changing habits, and now the pandemic and its effect on both the economy and the very practice of walking into a store, browsing, and trying things on. Is the department store dead? (Wall Street Journal)
