Oh, Yeah, Wasn't He The Guy With The Hat?

The striking thing in this story, and the real topic rather than the headline of how a collector bought a bunch of Frank Sinatra acetates and now he and others are debating whether two of the discs are unreleased and unknown recordings, is this: The collection of recordings in question was appraised at over $500,000 20 years ago. The current owner bought them for $12,000 a couple of years ago. Sinatra is still a name years after his death, but nowhere near what it used to be. He was a household name, known to almost everyone on the planet, instantly familiar. Now, not so much. Remember that when you're seeking fame and fortune; the fame part is fleeting for all but the names that make real history. (Los Angeles Times)
