No Good Deed And All That
-
A woman in St. Petersburg, FL decided to do something nice for the neighborhood, and you know how those things go. She built a pink box on a pole and filled it with dog treats for the neighbors to give to their pets while walking them. It's actually quite a nice, slick design. So, naturally, a neighbor complained, and the city cited her for violating the city code, which turned out not to anticipate dog treat boxes or "little free libraries" or anything else like that. All's well that ends well, though: after the intervention of a TV news team, the city said she was only in violation because she placed it in what's technically a right-of-way, and all she had to do was move it back a little, which she did. Bet the complainer's unhappy about that, but everyone else should be pleased. And there's always one complainer in every neighborhood. (WTSP-TV/St. Petersburg-Tampa)
