If your city is among those spending more money to expand their convention centers at the very time conventions are shrinking or going away and attendance was substantially declining even before the pandemic, this article might spur some talk about insane civic leadership pouring good money after bad because, well, everyone else is doing it. Indianapolis, Savannah, Cleveland, Terre Haute, all spending on convention center renovations and expansions at the same time other centers are teetering on the edge of bankruptcy, saved only by rock-bottom interest rate loans. Oh, and when you fund convention centers through hotel taxes and nobody's traveling.... (New York Times)
