If facial recognition doesn't always unlock your iPhone, how can police and the courts rely on it to convict criminals? That's what one man in New Jersey wants to know, since he was wrongfully arrested based on facial ID and is now suing. He spent 10 days in jail and had to pay thousands in legal fees even though he happened to be 30 miles from the scene of the crime, which was shoplifting. He is not the first to be wrongfully accused of a crime based on facial recognition, and it seems to fail most with minority faces. Maybe the system needs to be reconsidered. (WPVI-TV/Philadelphia)
