How About Making The Anthem Whatever's Number One On The Charts This Week?
-
Australia has officially changed one word in its National Anthem, "Advance Australia Fair" (yeah, everybody thinks it's "Waltzing Matilda" but it isn't), making "for we are young and free" into "for we are one and free." More inclusive, and "young" is interpreted to mean "everything before Europeans came here doesn't count," a slap in the face to the indigenous people. And other countries (Canada, for one) have made changes to their anthems to reflect changing times. America, of course, has a close-to-unsingable anthem (unless you possess Whitney Houston's range) with lyrics about a war. Maybe some new lyrics to THAT would be appropriate. How would you change it, and/or what other song would be more appropriate? (ABC News/Australia)
