They Still Mostly Measure How Good You Are At Taking Tests

The College Board has revised the SATs once again, this time phasing out the optional essay and the subject tests, which fewer schools were requiring anyway. But you could look at this as making the tests easier, which leads to a couple of possible takes, one from the "back in my day" viewpoint that the tests are being devalued, and the other the "good riddance" argument that standardized tests are a relic from a bad era, mean little about whether someone can succeed in college, and "if I had to take them, so should you" is mean-spirited and wrong.
