A man who survived being stranded in heavy snow in the Sierra Nevadas, stuck in his car with a small amount of food and drinking melted snow, got to that location because he'd been on I-80 when it was shut down and he followed his GPS directions for an alternate route. The GPS didn't know that the road it was suggesting was an unplowed mountain pass, and by the time the driver realized the situation, he couldn't turn around, and he had no cell phone service for days. This is another example of why we can't totally rely on technology. (CNN)
