Bad Service And Depleted Inventory Was An Interesting Business Model, Actually
-
Fry's Electronics is reportedly going out of business, and you'd be excused for thinking this happened a few years ago, when the stores became kinda decrepit with bare shelves and stories that the stock was mostly on consignment because they couldn't pay vendors. Whether that was true or not, and whatever the positives of the stores would be -- they were once a unique retailer with fun store exteriors and a "we have everything, even if it's disorganized" attitude -- the customer service was so, so bad that this had to be inevitable. I once got screamed at by the Burbank store manager for writing a check (which store policy said they'd accept), and I never went back. And I heard other horror stories of returned merchandise just put right back on the shelves, staff fighting customers over returns, that kind of thing. What other defunct retailers didn't surprise you when they went under? (KRON-TV/San Francisco)
