And You Thought We Already Had Enough Donut Shops
-
You've seen it, if not in person then on TV and in movies, the massive donut above a donut stand next to the 405 in Inglewood, a Los Angeles icon for decades called Randy’s Donuts. The sight of that donut right near LAX is a signal to a lot of tourists that, yes, indeed, they're in L.A. But now, the current owners are finally turning the one stand into a chain that aims to go national, and there are some topics here in local businesses that you'd like to see grow to chains and whether the chain/franchise locations are ever as good as the original. It's like being a fan of an unknown band when they suddenly become stadium-show hitmakers. (For the record, they opened a Randy's closer to my house -- there are now three, the original and two new ones, within a reasonably short drive -- and the quality is quite good at all of them, even if there's not a massive donut on the roof of the two new ones.)
