'This Is A Local Shop For Local People'
-
The battle over who gets vaccinations continues, and this time, it's an issue in Quartzsite, AZ, a town you might recognize from "Nomadland" as a place where people in beat-up RVs and vans gather. (I have been there and it is quite, um, something.) Anyway, here's the issue: People who live there year-round, or at least consider it their permanent home, are upset that temporary residents -- really, visitors -- are able to swoop in and get all the vaccine doses while the locals have to wait. And you can fold that into the larger question of who should be getting vaccines anywhere: should it be based on age, underlying conditions, occupation, locality? Should you be able to go to another county where the lines are shorter and get a shot? Another state? Asking for someone whose own county is going painfully slowly and can't seem to decide who's next in line. (Los Angeles Times)
