Be Patient. Your Actual Analog Library Should Reopen Soon
-
Let it never be forgotten that Amazon is a business, and when its business practices conflict with the public good, it will side with itself, and so we find that Amazon, which we know has become a publisher of major, high-profile books as well as a seller, is not allowing online libraries access to its ebooks. If you go to the main app your library offers for online ebook borrowing and reading, Libby, you'll see that some major books by major authors are not available because Amazon won't let you borrow them. It's pay or nothing. This is not a good thing for libraries, or readers; as much as you want authors to get paid through sales, libraries have been a public good for our entire lives, and anything that restricts what you can read through them is not a positive development. (Also, libraries do pay for those books, including a premium, so there's that.) (Washington Post)
