Bully Gains Power Because Everyone's Afraid Of Him. Hmm, Sounds Familiar
-
The recent rash of stories about bullies in Hollywood -- Scott Rudin, Joss Whedon, the CBS local station division heads -- is interesting in that excuses are made for their behavior. Oh, they're creative. They're colorful. It all blows over. Throwing things at you is how they show they respect you. All of this is BS, of course, as the L.A. Times' Mary McNamara notes in this piece; nobody behaving like them should be excused. So, why did they get away with it? Fear, I'd say. It's been ingrained over the years that you have to deal with a-holes as part of paying your dues, and complaining means you're just not cut out for the business. That has to end. And, um, radio people... does any of this remind you of bosses you've dealt with? (Los Angeles Times)
