The New York Times says it's a trend, and I guess you'd have to take their word for it absent any personal evidence that people are marrying their platonic best friends even though they don't have sex together and don't plan to stop seeing other people. It's a legal and social bond as family without the traditional parts like sharing a bed and procreation. Could you create a family and make mutual life decisions without the intimacy?
